Toronto port chief throws her hat in the ring

Lisa Raitt, president and chief executive officer of the Toronto Port Authority, is taking an unpaid leave of absence to run for office as a conservative candidate in the federal “riding” or electoral district in Halton, Ontario.

Raitt has served the Toronto Port Authority since 1999, and as president and CEO since 2002.

She previously served as harbormaster and as the corporate secretary and general counsel of the port.

Alan Paul, vice president and chief financial officer of the port authority, has been appointed acting president and CEO, effective immediately. The port authority board is developing a succession plan for the CEO role pending the outcome of the federal election.

The agency operates both the Port of Toronto and the Toronto City Centre Airport.
