   Totem Ocean Trailer Express has appointed John D. Parrott to president, replacing Bill Deaver, who had been with the company since March 2002.
   'His extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in all aspects of our business, from ship's officer to senior management, will contribute significantly to the goals of the company and its ongoing commitment to serving the people of Alaska,' said Tim Engle, chief executive officer of TOTE's holding company American Shipping Group, in a statement on Thursday.
   Parrott joined TOTE in 1992 as a first officer on the vessel Northern Lights. After 1993, he served as general manager of Sea Star Stevedoring, which manages the loading, discharge and terminal operations for TOTE. In 1996, Parrott joined Sea-Land as a marine superintendent.
   He rejoined TOTE in June 2002 as the Alaska general manager and was promoted in 2004 to vice president and general manager. He has served as vice president of commercial at TOTE since July 2006.
   TOTE is a privately owned shipping company operating U.S.-flag roll-on/roll-off cargo vessels between the ports of Tacoma, Wash., and Anchorage, Alaska, since 1975.
