Trade between U.S. and Canada, Mexico up slightly in April

   Trade between the United States and partners Canada and Mexico grew to $100.1 billion in April, a 1.2-percent rise over April 2013, according to the Department of Transportation.
   The trade total is a decline from the $101.48 billion in trade seen in March, which stands as the highest trade total so far this year.
   April U.S. import value to the two countries rose by 1.5 percent, year-over-year, to $53.69 billion, as exports ticked up 0.8 percent to nearly $46.45 billion. Among surface modes, the biggest increases came in truck imports, which rose by 4.3 percent, and vessel exports, which increased by 4.2 percent compared to April 2013’s results.  
   Vessel imports from the U.S. fell by 22.5 percent, year-over-year, as air imports and exports fell by 2.7 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively. Rail imports also took a 4.2-percent hit, and truck exports fell by 2.5 percent.
