Traffic delays expected at Canada border, airports

A work slow-down by Canada customs officers could slow commercial and passenger traffic to and from the country during the upcoming Victoria Day holiday weekend.

The Customs Excise Union, which represents some 4,200 border personnel, plans to refuse overtime and slow down work during the three-day weekend, according to a bulletin to customers from FedEx Trade Networks.

The FedEx brokerage division said slowdowns were first noticed at the Montreal and Calgary airports last weekend. The longest reported delay affected U.S.-bound trucks heading over the Peace Bridge near Buffalo, N.Y. May 19.
