Trailer Bridge: Environmental study boasts bargesÆ value

Puerto Rico trade specialist Trailer Bridge has sent an e-mail to its customers explaining how use of its barges lowers pollution-causing emissions.

The post-Earth Day message cited a study by James Corbett, from the University of Delaware's College of Marine and Earth Studies, that specifically looks at how Trailer Bridge barges reduce emissions in the Puerto Rico trade.

The report says the vessels generate 64 percent less carbon dioxide than a traditional ship, and produce 90 percent less particulate matter and 94 percent less sulfur dioxide.

Jacksonville-based Trailer Bridge said it will be making the full study available on request for anyone calling (800) 964-43503 or e-mailing [email protected].
