Trailer Bridge starting Dominican service

Trailer Bridge starting Dominican service Jacksonville-based Trailer Bridge, which operates primarily in the U.S./Puerto Rico trade, will launch a new service between the Port of Jacksonville and the Dominican Republic today.
   Trailer Bridge is deploying the Brooklyn Bridge, a triplestack unit built to handle 53-foot high-cube containers, in the service. The new Dominican route will initially offer fortnightly departures, but would become weekly as the market increases.
   The Brooklyn Bridge can carry 281 53-foot containers, which translates into 752 TEUs. Trailer Bridge said it has ordered 1,000 new 53-foot containers and 850 new chassis for the service expansion.
   'This new service is a natural next step for our company as it improves our frequency to Puerto Rico and opens three entirely new service lanes,' said Ralph Heim, president and chief operating officer.
   The new service also represents a new offering for the Port of Jacksonville.
   'This new service offers a growing economy access to modern 53-foot container service and enhances the shipping options at Jaxport,' said Roy Schleicher, the port's senior director of trade development and marketing.
