Transport a topic within broad U.S.-EU tech talks

Representative of the United States and European Union met Tuesday to hash out a cooperative agreement in the areas of science and technology, with transportation among four focus areas for the talks.
Specifically, the EU and the U.S. Department of Transportation signed an agreement to boost cooperation in transport research as they seek to determine how scientific and technological innovation can aid development of highway infrastructures, road safety, traffic management, and freight logistics.
“By engaging in more joint research, the EU and the U.S. can produce greater scientific breakthroughs, encourage new industries and provide more solutions to societal problems,” said Robert-Jan Smits, director general for research and innovation of the European Commission. “We can speed up those breakthroughs by putting our best brains together across academia and industry, and by fostering joint projects at sufficient scope and scale.” – Eric Johnson
