Throughput was boosted by a 19.8 percent increase in transshipment to 659,710 TEUs. For the year, Busan’s volume has increased 13.3 percent to 10.7 million TEUs, 45 percent of which is transshipment volume.
Roughly 48 percent of the port’s volume has shifted to its New Port complex, 20 miles to the west of Central Busan, as volume recedes at its older terminals, part of the port’s plan to migrate most traffic to the new set of container terminals.
