Tropical raises Caribbean rates

Caribbean liner carrier Tropical Shipping said it plans to hike rates from Sept. 16.
The increases are $125 per 20-foot container, $250 per 40-foot container and $281 for containers larger than 40 feet. Tropical will also assess increases on vehicle and breakbulk cargo.
The increases apply to dry and refrigerated shipments between the continental United States, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Dominican Republic, Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Nevis, St. Barths, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, and Trinidad.
“Due to the increasing cost of non-fuel-related operational expenses, our ability to sustain and invest in the service you have come to expect has been impacted,” the carrier said in a statement.
