Tropical reports improved results    Caribbean shipping company Tropical Shipping, a subsidiary of Nicor Inc., said Tuesday it had second quarter operating income of $4.2 million compared to $2.5 million in the second quarter of 2009.
   Operating revenue was $86 million for the quarter ending June 30 compared to $83.8 million in the same 2009 period.
   The company moved 43,600 TEUs in the quarter with average revenue of $1,975 per TEU, up from 42,700 TEUs with average revenue of $1,960 per TEU in the same 2009 period.
   “While markets in the Bahamas and Caribbean remain challenging, we are benefiting from the proactive efforts made over the last year to reduce operating costs in this business,” said Russ Strobel, Nicor’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
