Tropical Shipping increases intermodal accessorial charges

Tropical Shipping, the Caribbean islands and Latin America specialty carrier, said it will increase its intermodal shipping accessorial charges, effective Jan. 1, to offset increased costs for inland cargo movements.

‘Tropical Shipping has been experiencing a dramatic increase in the cost of the inland transportation of cargo over the last few years,’ a company statement said. ‘During this time we have absorbed increases in intermodal accessorial charges, such as the cost of extra stops and out-of-route charges without passing these increases on to our customers. However, Tropical Shipping is no longer in a position to continue this practice.’

The carrier said it will increase charges for extra stops and out-of-route moves, to $75 per extra stop, from the current $50 charge. The per-mile charge for miles traveled outside of established routes will increase 10 cents per mile to $1.15 per mile.

Tropical said customers should contact local transportation consultant or specific ‘Island Trade Teams’ with questions. Detailed contact information is available at http://www.tropical.com .
