TSA picks 8 firms for next phase of TWIC    The Transportation Security Administration has selected eight vendors to the final round for a contract to manage the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program.
   The eight companies, according to notice on a government contracting Web site, are BearingPoint, Computer Sciences Corp., Electronic Data Systems Corp., IBM, Integrated Biometric Technology, Lockheed Martin, Motorola and Maximus.
   The final awardee will be responsible for managing the central database of names and personal information for verifying whether longshoremen, truckers, rail workers and others are authorized to enter a secure port area, operating enrollment centers and help desks, issuing biometric identification cards and doing other functions.
   The remaining bidders must file their proposals by Oct. 2.
