'Just about 131,000 tons are needed in December for a 2 million ton shipping year in 2008,' said Steve Kisse, chairman of the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority, in a statement. 'We think we can still get there.'
The Tulsa Port of Catoosa has shipped 2 million tons every year for the last 10 years, except for 2005 when the port fell short of the mark by 180,000 tons.
In bound shipments of fertilizer were higher in November than in October, according to the port. Outbound shipments of soy products from the port were the highest in seven months.
Sixty-six barges traveled to and from the Tulsa Port of Catoosa in November. So far in 2008, total barge traffic stands at 1,132.
The Tulsa Port of Catoosa handled 10 percent of the cargo shipped along the entire McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System in November, and 34 percent of the cargo traveling through Oklahoma. The 445-mile McClellan'Kerr waterway links Oklahoma and the surrounding five-state area with ports on the 25,000 mile long U.S. inland waterway.
