Turkmenistan begins construction of key rail line
Turkmenistan began construction Saturday on a north-south railroad from the border with Kazakhstan to Iran, the Associated Press reported over the weekend.
'The 420-mile line will improve Turkmenistan’s connections with Russia via Kazakhstan and to the Persian Gulf Coast via Iran,' the story said. It could have particularly significance for the oil-rich areas around the Caspian Sea, including Turkmenistan's vast natural gas reserves and Kazakhstan huge oil reserves.
