Turkon drops Charleston, adds Savannah

Turkon drops Charleston, adds Savannah Istanbul-based Turkon Container Transportation & Shipping is switching calls on its transatlantic USA Line service from Charleston to Savannah, effective late-June.
   The USA Line service uses four ships of about 1,150 TEUs and has a sailing frequency of every eight days. The revised port rotation will be New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Gemlik, Istanbul, Izmir and back to New York. The service has transshipment capabilities to Alexandria, Haifa and Ashdod.
   The port of Savannah said the new service will boost its container volumes by more than 40,000 TEUs annually. U.S. exports handled by Turkon are expected to include woodpulp, paper products, linerboard and kaolin clay with inbound cargoes including finished textiles and fabrics.
   In a separate development, CMA CGM and P&O Nedlloyd commenced their joint weekly U.S. East Coast/East Coast South America “ABX” service with the departure of the vessel “Nedlloyd Clarence” from Charleston today.
