Two new cranes for Port of Halifax

Cerescorp Co. said Friday it has purchased two super post-Panamax cranes for its Fairview Cove Container Terminal in the Port of Halifax.

With the purchase, Cerescorp will own and operate a total of six cranes at the terminal: three 65-ton super post-Panamax cranes and three 40-ton gantry cranes with a total capability of handling throughput in excess of 400,000 containers per year.

The new cranes will be shipped from the Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. facility in Killarney, Ireland. They can handle 22 containers across and are capable of working the world’s largest mega-containerships, Cerescorp said in a statement. They also complement the Port of Halifax’s 55-foot deepwater berthing capability.

Delivery of the cranes is expected in summer 2007.
