U.K. climate change law to affect shipping, aviation The U.K. government will include emissions from the shipping and aviation industries in an ambitious and sweeping climate change bill, the International Herald Tribune reported Tuesday.
   “Ministers agreed Tuesday to amend the bill to take emissions from ships and planes into account after a campaign from environmentalists and lawmakers in their own party,” the report said. “The bill commits the country to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050 and makes Britain the first country to agree to legally binding targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change minister Joan Ruddock told lawmakers the international aviation and shipping industry would have to take action to reduce climate change.”
   Lawmakers were due to vote on the amendment Tuesday evening, with the bill due to become law next month, the newspaper reported.
