U. of Md. to study economic effects of phytosantiary policies

U. of Md. to study economic effects of phytosantiary policies

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the University of Maryland at College Park, Md., a $172,000 grant to study the effect of alternative phytosanitary policies on invasive pest risks in imports and the implications for allocating federal surveillance resources.

   The USDA said researchers will analyze risk factors for pest introductions in imports of fruits and vegetables, cut flowers, and propagative plant materials using Animal and Plant Health Inspection data and information on phytosanitary policy from the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations and the World Trade Organization notifications database.
