U.S. allows Israeli eggplant imports    The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has amended its regulations to allow the import of fresh eggplant from Israel into the United States, effective July 6.
   As a condition of entry, eggplant imports require pest controls at the production site, fruit fly trapping inside and outside the production site, and pest-excluding packinghouse procedures.
   In addition, shipments must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Israeli national plant protection organization with an additional declaration confirming the eggplants have been produced in accordance with pest control requirements, the USDA said.
