U.S., Brazil talking ethanol The United States and Brazil are reportedly in talks to develop a cooperative agreement for increasing ethanol production in the Western Hemisphere.
   According to a report in the Miami Herald, the two countries are expected to announce the outlines of an agreement within a week that would promote greater use of ethanol as an alternative fuel throughout the Americas. Both countries will devote funding to the program, and the Inter-American Development Bank and the Organization of American States are also expected to work with the countries, the report said.
   'The United States and Brazil are the world's two largest biodiesel producers, so cooperation is natural,' Eric Watnik, State Department spokesman, told the Herald. 'Our goal is to advance global energy security by helping countries that will diversity their supply.'
