U.S. COAST GUARD SCHEDULES MEETING ON MARITIME SECURITY

U.S. COAST GUARD SCHEDULES MEETING ON MARITIME SECURITY    The U.S. Coast Guard will hold a public meeting Jan. 3 to discuss a proposed U.S. submission to the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization on maritime security.
   The IMO, at its November assembly, proposed a review of measures and procedures to prevent acts of terrorism which threaten the safety of ships, crews and passengers. The organization's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) will meet in May to consider proposals to be presented at the IMO's international conference on maritime security in December. The IMO's goal is to adopt maritime security-related amendments to the International Convention on the Life at Sea (SOLAS).
   The Coast Guard's meeting is to prepare comment for an MSC intersessional working group meeting to be held in February.
