U.S. Coast Guard to hold ballast water meetings
The U.S. Coast Guard will hold two public meetings this week to solicit comments on its proposed rulemaking for ballast water discharge standards.
• Ballast rulemaking poses high hurdle for barge, tug operators
The sea service on Aug. 28 published a proposal that would require commercial vessels to install and operate special equipment to treat ballast water before it is discharged into a waterway.
The meetings will take place Tuesday in Oakland (Hilton Oakland Airport) and on Thursday in New York (Marriot New York Downtown).
Live webcasts of the meetings will be available at http://ballastwater.us.
