U.S., COLOMBIA SIGN CARGO DEAL

The United States has signed an aviation liberalization agreement with Colombia that frees cargo airlines from either nation to fly to any city in the United States or Colombia without limitation.

The so-called “open skies’ pact on cargo services is effective immediately, the U.S. Department of Transportation said. Greater passenger services between the United States and Colombia, including 21 additional weekly frequencies, will be phased in over the next three years.

The new cargo agreement likely will promote more competition from airlines wanting a piece of the booming cut flower export market in Colombia.
