U.S. Commerce, AmCham Shanghai sign agreement

   Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez on Monday signed a memorandum of intent (MOI) with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Shanghai to expand collaboration between the United States and AmCham Shanghai.
   The agreement is intended to enhance trade between the United States and China.
   “AmCham Shanghai offers a unique perspective on Chinese leadership and China’s economic goals,” Sánchez said. “We welcome and encourage their increased collaboration as we seek to continue our trend of strengthening our mutually beneficial trade relationship.”
   AmCham Shanghai is one of the world’s largest AmChams and routinely works with the International Trade Administration (ITA). The non-profit, non-partisan business organization is committed to the principles of free trade, open markets, private enterprise, and strengthening U.S.-China commercial ties.
   The two parties have agreed to develop strategies and to carry out activities to enhance the competitiveness of, and opportunities for. U.S. businesses in Shanghai and more broadly within China and elsewhere in Asia.
   Sánchez and AmCham Shanghai officials also discussed increasing exports to China by U.S. small and midsized enterprises (SME) through the use of AmCham Shanghai’s new SME Center. The SME Center provides resources such as market analysis, information on business issues, and investor match-making services. – Eric Johnson
