In a roll call vote late Monday, the House of Representatives passed the
Miscellaneous Trade and Technical Corrections Act, which would authorize
$50 million in 2000 for the development of U.S. Customs’ new umbrella
system, the Automated Commercial Environment.
The bill is now ready for the President’s signature. It also revises
certain aspects of the Customs’ duty-drawback regulations for the petroleum
and packaging industries.
