U.S., Costa Rica agree on pocket fabric under CAFTA

Now that a deal has been reached with Costa Rica, the United States has concluded agreements on pocketing fabric with all five members of the Central American signatories to the Central American Free Trade Agreement-Dominican Republic (CAFTA-DR).

A similar agreement was reached with the Dominican Republic

CAFTA-DR, which includes Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, was approved by Congress and signed by President Bush in 2005.

The United States and the CAFTA-DR signatories agreed to negotiate amendments on pocketing fabric inputs when concerns were raised during congressional consideration of the CAFTA-DR implementing bill, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) said.

'The next step is for all the CAFTA-DR parties to complete their domestic legislative procedures required to implement the amendments that have been agreed upon,' the USTR said.
