U.S CUSTOMS BEGINS ACS TEST

U.S. Customs has begun to simulate a 24-hour paper import entry process
today at the ports of Savannah, Ga. and Charleston, S.C.
The test will give Customs an idea of what to expect if its 15-year-old
Automated Commercial System crashes. Customs will use the test to draw up contingency
plans.
The agency proposed a similar test for the Port of Houston in February,
but the test was canceled after industry officials complained.
