The Commerce Department said U.S. exports of goods and services decreased to $186.2 billion in February from $189.2 billion in January.
However, the department noted the goods and services trade deficit improved 17 percent to $35.4 billion in February. This is the lowest monthly trade deficit since October 2009.
Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker said the data “shows that high-value U.S. exports such as pharmaceuticals, civilian aircraft, and machinery have continued to grow this year despite global economic challenges.”
The White House is currently working with Congress to reauthorize long-lapsed trade promotion authority legislation.
