U.S., Mauritius enter agreement to expand trade The United States and Mauritius have signed an agreement to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
   The so-called Trade and Investment Framework Agreement calls for the formation of a United States-Mauritius Trade and Investment Council to address a wide range of subjects, including trade promotion and development, export diversification, trade capacity building, intellectual property, labor, investment and environmental issues.
   Total trade between the United States and Mauritius was valued at $252.7 million in 2005, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Significant Mauritian exports include textiles and apparel, sugar, processes diamonds, jewelry, canned and frozen fish, and eyewear. Mauritius is also emerging as an exporter of worked diamonds, sunglasses and eyewear.
