U.S. PORT DISRUPTIONS TRIGGER SERVICE CHANGE AT CMA CGM

U.S. PORT DISRUPTIONS TRIGGER SERVICE CHANGE AT CMA CGM

CMA CGM, the French container shipping line, will split its Mediterranean/Asia/U.S. West Coast/Asia/Mediterranean “6pendulum” service into two independent services because of port problems on the U.S. West Coast.

The 13-vessel MEX-TPX service, which currently covers the Mediterranean/Asia and Asia/U.S. trades, will now be divided into a Mediterranean/Asia service using eight vessels and a transpacific link employing five ships.

A spokesman for CMA CGM said that the change will protect the schedule of its Mediterranean/Asia service from U.S. port disruptions or delays.

The carrier will announce details of the revised services in the next few days. The transpacific service is expected to stop calling at Oakland, but would feature a new direct call at Vancouver.
