U.S. provides nearly $1 million to WTO technical assistance fund

U.S. provides nearly $1 million to WTO technical assistance fund The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced that the United States will contribute $942,305 to the World Trade Organization’s technical assistance program.
   The money, which was approved by Congress, will be part of a technical assistance fund that developing countries can use to help them analyze issues, assess individual country interests, and meet their WTO obligations that result from the negotiations.
   “The United States stands to benefit greatly from a successful conclusion of the Doha Round,” said U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, in a June 18 statement. “Yet our success would be short-lived if our partners in developing nations could not fully engage in the pursuit of an ambitious Doha Round outcome that promises to spur development and enhance economic opportunity around the globe.”
   The United States has contributed about $8 million to the WTO technical assistance fund since November 2001.
