U.S.-Puerto Rico exports exempt from advance filing timeframes The U.S. Census Bureau said shipments moving between the United States and Puerto Rico remain exempt from the advance export information filing timeframes.
   'The proof of filing citation, post departure filing citation, or exemption citation must be presented to the carrier prior to the departure of goods for shipment from the United States to Puerto Rico and from Puerto Rico to the United States,' the agency said. After Sept. 30, all export information must be filed in the federal government's Automated Export System.
   The advance electronic filing timeframes for all other export trades are 24-hours prior to loading for ocean cargo, two hours prior to scheduled departure for air cargo, one hour prior to arrival at the border for trucked cargo, and two hours prior to arrival at the border for rail cargo. The 2002 Trade Act set these timeframes.
   Census said shipments from the United States or Puerto Rico to the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico to other foreign countries are not exempt from the filing timeframes.
