U.S., Romanian business council formed

   The American-Romanian Business Council was officially launched over the weekend as a non-profit organization to promote commercial relations between the United States and Romania.
   “I welcome the establishment of the American-Romanian Business Council and believe that it will stimulate U.S. investment in Romania and promote the Romanian business and political environment across the United States,” said President Traian Basescu of Romania, in a statement.
   The council will ensure American executives and key Romanian and U.S. government decision makers have a forum to advocate for further trade and investment opportunities in Romania and amicably resolve issues that might prevent future growth in our commercial relationship.
   “Romania is undeniably one of America’s closest allies anywhere in the world,” said Eric Stewart, the council’s president. “In conjunction with diplomatic initiatives, the investments being made in Romania by American companies will assist to ensure our tremendous bond with Romania will never be broken.”
   Chevron will serve as the first chair of the council. The council’s other board members are ADM serving as vice chair, Raytheon as treasurer, Smithfield Foods as secretary, Amgen, MetLife, and The Mega Company. General members include Cargill, Eli Lilly, ExxonMobil, PHRMA, and Timken.
