U.S. Senate confirms Kaveeshwar to lead RITA

The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed Ashok G. Kaveeshwar as administrator of the newly created Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) within the Department of Transportation.

Kaveeshwar was president of Orange Technologies Inc. From 1998 to 2002, he was senior vice president of Raytheon Technical Services Co. President Bush nominated him to be the director of RITA May 24.

'The goal in creating RITA is to have a focused research agency that is part Silicon Valley entrepreneurial company and part university research lab,' said Norman Y. Mineta, U.S. Transportation secretary, in a statement.
