U.S. to require sky marshals on some international flights
International passenger and cargo airlines will be required to carry armed air marshals on selected flights traveling through U.S. airspace as an extra measure to protect the aircraft from takeover by terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security said.
The United States will request, through the carrier, that foreign governments place security personnel on flights in cases where intelligence indicates there is a higher threat level, spokesman Dennis Murphy told the Associated Press. The emergency directives are effective immediately.
