U.S. workshop on transport of nuclear materials    The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Transportation Department will hold a workshop regarding new rules for the safe domestic transport of nuclear materials at the commission’s Rockville, Md. headquarters on April 15.
   On Jan. 26, the NRC published its final rules amending the country’s domestic transportation regulations for nuclear materials to make them compatible with the 1996 International Atomic Energy Agency standards.
   The agency coordinated its rulemaking with the Transportation Department to ensure consistency with its implementation by transport authorities.
