UASC executive seeks free transportation for relief in Sri Lanka

Anil Vitarana, president of United Arab Agencies Inc., who was born in Sri Lanka, is seeking donations of freight-free container space or provision of trucking services from the United States to ship relief goods to the tsunami-devastated region.

“A few containers are already stuffed and ready to ship next week, and others are being positioned for consolidation, but more are needed,” Vitarana said.

With friends and family, the shipping executive has raised funds through direct donations and a Web site, www.helplanka.org .

“I thank the shipping lines and truckers that have already donated their services and would appreciate the assistance of others,” Vitarana said.
