UASC jumps into Southeast Asia/Australia

UASC jumps into Southeast Asia/Australia    United Arab Shipping Co., China Shipping, Hyundai Merchant Marine and Hapag-Lloyd have started a new service linking Southeast Asia and Australia, according to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data.
   The new weekly service — dubbed AAC1 by UASC, SAL by Hapag-Lloyd and Hyundai, and AUS 3 by China Shipping — will operate with four vessels with an average capacity of 2,702 TEUs. UASC provides two vessels, while Hyundai and China Shipping provide one each. Hapag-Lloyd is a slot buyer.
   The rotation is Port Klang, Singapore, Fremantle, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Port Klang.
   For UASC, it's the company's first foray into the Southeast Asia/Australia trade. Hapag-Lloyd, meanwhile, operates no vessels on the trade but, according to ComPair Data, buys slots on four other services:
   ' The AAX butterfly service of ANL-APL-NYK (on which Hyundai and China Shipping also buy slots).
   ' Maersk Line's and Mediterranean Shipping Co.'s Boomerang service.
   ' The NZS service of PIL-OOCL-NYK-MOL.
   ' RCL's RSA service, which it operates with Hanjin Shipping and 'K' Line. ' Eric Johnson
