UKRAINE INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES EXTENDS CARGO COVERAGE TO MADRID

   Ukraine International Airlines added twice-weekly service between Kiev and Madrid with up to two tons of cargo capacity per flight.

   The airline’s new Boeing 737-300 flights to Madrid, under a codeshare agreement with Iberia, depart Kiev on Mondays and Fridays, returning the following day. The airline plans to add a third weekly flight to the route next summer.

   “We already operate successfully between Kiev and Barcelona and we are gaining regular support from freight forwarding customers in Spain,” said Vladimir Semenchenko, cargo director for Ukraine International Airlines.

   The 10-year-old airline operates flights to 13 European cities from Kiev, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Vienna and Zurich. Later this year, the airline plans to introduce flights to Lisbon.

''In 2001, Ukraine International Airline carried more than 2,500 tons of cargo, a 12 percent increase over the previous year.
