Unifeeder appoints former Maersk Group CEO as board chairman

Nils Smedegaard Andersen, who served as group chief executive officer of A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S from December 2007 until July 1, 2016, was named chairman of European regional carrier Unifeeder’s board of directors.

Nils Smedegaard Andersen, previous CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S, has been named chairman of Unifeeder’s board of directors.

Unifeeder, the largest independent Pan-European feeder and short-sea operator, appointed Nils Smedegaard Andersen as chairman of its board of directors.
Andersen succeeds former Hapag-Lloyd chief commercial officer Jesper Praestensgaard, who is taking up the position of deputy chairman, Unifeeder said.
Andersen previously served as group chief executive officer of A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S, parent company of leading liner carrier Maersk Line, from December 2007 until July 1, 2016, when he was replaced by Søren Skou.
Today, Andersen works as a professional board member and strategic advisor to e.g. Nordic Capital Funds. In addition, he currently serves as non-executive director at BP plc, non-executive director at Unilever, and chairman of the board of international retail group, Dansk Supermarked A/S.
His position at Unifeeder marks his first directorship within the logistics and shipping industry after he left A.P. Moller – Maersk.
Commenting on his appointment, Andersen said, “Unifeeder has significantly expanded its network and service offering in recent years and I look forward to working with management to further strengthening Unifeeder’s market position by building closer customer relationships and developing the service offering, while considering entering into new markets, possibly through mergers and acquisitions.”
