UNION PACIFIC TO PROVIDE WESTERN TRANSPORTATION FOR GM

   Union Pacific Railroad has been selected by General Motors Corp. as the automaker's lead rail transportation provider in the western United Sates.

   Under the multiyear agreement, UP will handle all of GM's finished vehicle traffic in the West, totaling more than 2.5 million vehicles annually. UP will expand its GM service to Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma as well as locations in Minnesota and the upper Midwest.

   UP will build or expand seven vehicle distribution facilities, make other facility improvements to permit vehicle unloading at all facilities and install new vehicle management systems at each location.

   UP is the largest railroad in North America, covering 23 states across two-thirds of the United States.
