UNITED CARGO TO PARTICIPATE IN PORTAL SERVICE    United Airlines Cargo said Friday it is joining an effort with Air Canada, Northwest and Unisys to introduce Cargo Portal Service, an Internet portal that provides online communications between air carriers and forwarders.
   The portal service will offer simultaneous tracking of airway bills on multiple carriers, ability to trace with proactive notification. United Cargo said the site is expected to be launched at the end of 2002.
   “The unique site provides the functionality customers need to conduct their businesses profitably,” said Roger Gibson, vice president of United Cargo.
   United Cargo offers nearly 1,800 flights daily to 134 destinations in 26 countries and two U.S. territories. United is one of the largest combination passenger/cargo carriers in the United States, flying more than 2.4 billion cargo-ton miles in 2000.
