United starts San Francisco/Taipei flights

United Airlines Thursday became the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service to and from Taipei when it started a daily passenger and cargo service between San Francisco and the Taiwan capital.

United operates the new San Francisco/Taipei service using a Boeing 777 aircraft, which has the capability to carry about 20 tons of cargo per flight.

“We are pleased to offer our customers direct access to an important economic and cultural center by establishing a nonstop link between the Bay Area, Silicon Valley and Taipei,” said Kevin Knight, United’s senior vice president, planning.
