UPS deploys ?green? trucks

UPS deploys ôgreenö trucks    UPS, the largest U.S. package delivery company, has added 167 new compressed natural gas delivery vehicles to its fleet as part of its continuing effort to reduce tailpipe emissions such as carbon.
   The courier said it is deploying 100 vehicles to five California cities and the rest to Atlanta and Dallas. The trucks are the first UPS vehicles newly built to operate on compressed natural gas. The Atlanta-based company operates 800 of these alternative fuel vehicles that were converted from gasoline or diesel power.
   UPS estimated the trucks would reduce emissions by 20 percent and improve fuel economy by 10 percent compared to the cleanest diesel engines available today.
   UPS also operates more than 800 liquefied natural gas, hybrid, electric and propane vehicles around the world. UPS's total package delivery fleet stands at more than 93,630 vehicles.
