UPS increases LCL offerings

   Last year, UPS ramped up its ocean freight offerings, expanding less-than-containerload services to more than 300 lanes.
   The integrator now offers direct LCL service on 1,700 lanes to 116 countries.
   UPS recently added 139 outbound lanes and 42 intra-region lanes in Asia, including 12 inbound and outbound lanes in South Korea and 10 outbound lanes from Vietnam. The company added 81 direct lanes in Europe. Last year also brought 33 new North American outbound lanes and 15 outbound lanes in Latin America. 
   Andy Huckbody, vice president of UPS Ocean Freight Services, said the company’s LCL program gives customers reliable, predictable coverage in almost every part of the world. He added UPS is certainly not finished tinkering with its LCL service yet.  
   “The global economic landscape is constantly changing and we plan to add more direct LCL lanes throughout 2013 to address these evolving market needs,” Huckbody said in a statement. “Our comprehensive ocean freight portfolio and extensive relationships with major global carriers with whom we have contracted space allocations helps enable our customers to have maximum flexibility, constant access, reliability and competitive rates for their ocean freight movements.” – Jon Ross
