UPS My Choice proves popular, Davis says

More than 100,000 people have subscribed for UPS My Choice since the company rolled out the service on Sept. 14 to give customers more delivery options, Chairman and CEO Scott Davis said during the company’s quarterly earnings call with analysts on Tuesday.
The new innovation gives customers the ability to control the time and location of home delivery the day before arrival to avoid unsuccessful deliveries. UPS can provide delivery alerts by phone, e-mail or text, and the four-hour delivery time frame. Customers can sign for a package online if they don’t plan on being home or have the package rerouted to another address or UPS Store for a $5 fee. The service also provides applications for tracking the status of one’s package.
A premium membership, available for a $40 annual subscription, provides the additional benefit of access to an online delivery calendar that shows the status of UPS home deliveries. Premium members also are offered a two-hour confirmed delivery window. A $5 transaction fee is charged only upon successful delivery of the package within the two-hour commitment.
UPS is trying to make the delivery experience more convenient, especially as consumers continue to increase shopping via the Web.
UPS My Choice also helps reduce costs for UPS by eliminating multiple delivery attempts.  – Eric Kulisch
