UPS opens California distribution center, building second    UPS said Tuesday it has opened a 765,000-square-foot distribution center in Mira Loma, Calif., and starting construction of a second campus in the southern California area.
   UPS had leased a smaller facility in nearby Ontario.
   UPS said construction of the second 400,000-square-foot building has started with a scheduled opening during the second quarter of 2006.
   The new distribution centers will support critical parts management, order fulfillment operations, freight receiving and shipment preparation for multiple clients, shipping and international technology platforms, UPS said.
   The Mira Loma campus is located close to the Ontario International Airport and to the interstate corridors of I-15 and I-10. Ontario is the site of UPS’s West Coast small package air hub. The campus also will be used to process shipments from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
   “The Mira Loma campus will accommodate the expected growth of larger consolidated shipments that often originate in Asia,” said Rocky Romanella, president of the Americas Region for UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
