The new facility, which was designed to meet the specific needs of pharmaceutical companies, features a fully automated tracking system. It is staffed by an on-site quality assurance team.
“With many healthcare companies demanding rigorous supply chain solutions in China, we are seeing increasing opportunities,” UPS’ Richard Loi said. “The UPS Hangzhou facility, along with our existing Shanghai medical device facility, will speed products to key markets within China and underscores UPS’ commitment to strengthening our China network.”
China is an important market for UPS. In the region, UPS now has healthcare facilities in Shanghai and Singapore. It also owns a facility in Sydney and is planning to expand five existing North American facilities. Finally, the company is looking to acquire a European healthcare firm this year. Worldwide, UPS staffs 41 healthcare facilities spanning 595,000 square meters.
In the carrier’s recent global healthcare study, Pain in the (Supply) Chain, industry executives voted China as the most likely region for expansion.
UPS also recently secured certificates from the International Standardization Organization celebrating its healthcare logistics network.
“Our ISO certification substantiates UPS’s commitment to quality on a global scale,” UPS’ Craig Foster said in a statement. “Our dedicated healthcare facilities in the APAC region enable comprehensive and compliant services to customers in the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries.” – Jon Ross
