UPS orders more hybrid delivery vans

The Atlanta, Ga.-based parcel giant said it plans to add 200 new hybrid electric delivery trucks to its fleet beginning in January.    UPS plans to add 200 new hybrid electric delivery trucks to its fleet beginning in January, the company said Tuesday.
   Earlier this year, the express carrier announced the order of 125 vehicles from Workhorse Group, Inc., with the same 2-cylinder engine and E-GEN chassis.
   Equipped with lithium ion batteries and a range extender engine, the trucks are about four times as fuel efficient as a gasoline-powered vehicle. A cloud-based, real-time telematics performance monitoring system provides feedback for energy monitoring and route efficiency.
   The hybrid trucks will be deployed across the south from Arizona to Florida, UPS said.
   UPS has been a major adopter of alternative fuel technology for its parcel and heavy-duty trucks.
