UPS predicts December growth

The integrator said it will experience 11-percent growth in December volumes.    UPS is expecting 11-percent, year-over-year, growth this December.
The carrier announced its expectations a week after FedEx reported predicted an 8.8-percent increase over its 2013 peak season numbers. For FedEx, peak season extends from Black Friday in November to Christmas Eve.  It also said Dec. 15 would be its busiest day ever, with the company handling 22.6 million shipments in a single day.
UPS previously announced it would invest $500 million to prepare for peak season volumes.
“We expect another robust peak season and are confident our network is prepared to operate at the highest level,” Kurt Kuehn, the integrator’s chief financial officer, said in a statement. “As a result, we are reiterating our expectations for adjusted diluted earnings per share to be in a range of $4.90 to $5.00, a 7-to-9-percent increase over 2013 adjusted results.”
During the third quarter, UPS saw its domestic daily-package result climb 6.9 percent, year-over-year, as the international export rate increased by 9.4 percent. Domestic revenue climbed 5.3 percent to $8.7 billion, and international renuve ended the quarter up 5.5 percent at $3.2 billion.
“The solid performance we delivered this quarter establishes our ability to stay ahead of market growth and generate positive operating leverage,” said David Abney, the integrator’s chief executive officer. “We continue making investments in technology and expanding our capabilities around the world to ensure we provide the long-term solutions customers demand.”
